Brown Williams Journal vol. I: Triangle

Brown Williams is a journal dedicated to unifying the work of
many into a single, multifaceted piece of writing.  In Triangle,
forty-one authors have collaborated to produce one work of forty
linked pieces.

Brown Williams was conceived as a new style of journal inspired
by game theory and Oulipo, and the desire to unite Glasgow’s
artistic community.  Through a number of specially selected
models such as ‘Triangle’ or ‘Dominoes’, writers respond directly
to one another’s words.  To expand across disciplines we invited
music students at Glasgow's Royal Scottish Academy of Music
and Drama to produce original compositions and graphic design
students at the Glasgow Metropolitan College to create one-off
artist’s book editions of Triangle; inspired by both concept and
content.  See www.brownwilliams.org for further details.
The editors, Elinor Brown and JL Williams, co-authored the first
piece and sent it anonymously to three writers who each wrote a
piece inspired by the first.  Each of their pieces was sent
anonymously to three additional writers, and their nine pieces to
another three writers each; resulting in the forty pieces that
comprise the first volume.  We encourage you to cut the pages
out of TYPE and use the diagram and table of contents to build
the triangle for yourselves; but also to play with the order to
create new patterns.

Our goal is to encourage writers, musicians and designers to
experiment and to find inspiration in one another’s work from
which to generate high-calibre, communal and cohesive
structures of words, music and graphics.

We would like to thank TYPE for hosting Triangle in this edition.
We would also like to invite you to a performance of readings and
music inspired by Triangle at the Kibble Palace on Friday 29th
May at 7.30 p.m.  The event is open to the public and admission
is free.

To book a place please email bookings@brownwilliams.org.
The end result of the Triangle textual collaboration follows.
